Shu Yamamura, Ph.D.

Dr. Shu Yamamura is an urban planner and researcher. He is an associate professor of Planning at the Department of Urban Science and Policy, Tokyo Metropolitan University.

 

He completed his undergraduate studies at Waseda University and worked for several ICT companies. After six years of job experience as an investment manager being in charge of M&A of high-tech startups, he returned to the Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering at Waseda, and he gained a master's degree in architecture and a Ph.D. in engineering.

 

His research interests lie at the crossroads of interdisciplinary research between urban planning and social sciences. His current research projects and interests relate to creative industry clusters in Tokyo (ICT, animation, apparel design, etc.), business location theories, knowledge-city policies, inner-city problems and revitalization, urban structural transformation of the Tokyo Metro Area, etc.

Dr. Yamamura has various teaching experiences including "Advanced Topics in Architectural Design and Engineering A (Spring)", "Topics in Modern Cities and Regions (Fall)", etc.  He is also coordinating two urban design studios: "Design Exercises - F (Spring)", "Sydney University - Waseda University International Urban Design Workshop (Fall)".
